Women’s Basketball knocks off Oklahoma State, 64-53

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Women’s Basketball team stepped back into the winner’s circle with a 64-53 win over Oklahoma State at the Frank Erwin Center on Wednesday. The win pushes the Longhorns’ record to 14-5 this season, and 8-4 in Big 12 play. Wednesday also marked Texas’ 13th win by double-digits this season, and seventh vs. a Big 12 opponent.

After both teams struggled from the floor in the opening frame, Texas outscored Oklahoma State, 19-4, in the second quarter. Charli Collier was the biggest contributor for the Longhorns, scoring 14 points in the frame. Texas closed the quarter on an 11-0 run and took a 30-17 lead into the break.

Collier, a Mont Belvieu, Texas native, finished with 28 points and 19 rebounds to post her 14th double-double of the season, tied for the most of any Division I player. It was also Collier’s fourth-straight game scoring at least 20 points and the 13th time this year she has tallied 20-plus points in a game. With a made layup late in the fourth quarter, Collier became the 47th player in Texas history to score 1,000 points in her career. She is averaging 16.4 rebounds per game over her last seven contests.

Texas came out hot again to start the second half, opening the third quarter with a quick 8-2 run. That burst was anchored by a pair of 3-pointers from Celeste Taylor and Kyra Lambert, with the latter’s forcing the Cowgirls to call timeout.

Taylor was Texas’ second-most effective weapon on the offensive end against Oklahoma State, scoring 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting. She added two rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Cowgirls.

Wednesday’s victory pushed Texas’ record to 5-0 following losses this season. Four of those wins have come in conference play. In those outings, Texas has scored 71.8 points per game and won by an average margin of 15.8 points.

The Longhorns are scheduled to return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 14, when they visit No. 7 Baylor. Tip-off at the Ferrell Center is set for 4 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
