Warrant issued for Seattle Seahawks’ new defensive end

A warrant is out for NFL pass rusher Aldon Smith’s arrest on a second-degree battery charge in the New Orleans suburb of St. Bernard.

St. Bernard sheriff deputies responded to a call for medical assistance around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night, the sheriff’s office confirmed in a statement. A male victim said he was “assaulted by an acquaintance of his earlier while outside a business.” Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau identified Smith as a suspect in their investigation and issued an arrest warrant, sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Smith’s agent, Ron Slavin, declined comment when reached Monday by USA TODAY Sports.

The alleged incident occurred just two days after Smith signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. The allegation could complicate his pursuit to revive his NFL career.
