Texas Border Business
MISSION, TEXAS – The growing Rio Grande Valley welcomed a new home builder this week, Winfield Communities, which broke ground Monday on its first property in Sharyland Plantation. Winfield Communities is the newest venture of Killam companies, a family-owned business with deep roots in South Texas that spans four generations and more than 100 years. The Winfield Communities team includes experienced architects, designers and project managers from the local community and is led by Division President Andy Konovodoff, who hails from Chicago where he served for nearly 20 years as president of a prominent national builder.
Winfield Communities will begin work on a number of available lots in Sharyland Plantation, bringing the company’s innovative take on quality and design to this established community.
“We believe in the Valley, and we’re excited about the talent we have recruited onto our team,” said Winfield Communities Division President Andy Konovodoff. “This team will help bring both fresh design ideas and a commitment to craftsmanship and quality to all the homes we build for families here in the Valley.”
Winfield Communities is named for Killam Companies founder, Oliver Winfield Killam, who moved his family to South Texas and established his business in Laredo in the early 1920’s. Killam Companies has a long and successful history in the oil and gas industry, real estate development, ranching and investments across the region and has been working in the Rio Grande Valley area since 2013.
“Business leaders from around the country and beyond are recognizing the growing importance of the Rio Grande Valley,” said Cliffe Killam, President & CEO of Killam Development. “Having operated here for so many years, we know that this is a great place to launch our home building business because it is such a welcoming community that has thoughtful, forward thinking leadership at all levels.”
