Je’Sani Smith Foundation, Texas Surf Museum partner on beach safety

In 2019, 18-year-old Je’Sani Smith lost his life when he was swept away by a rip current at Whitecap Beach.

Two years later, Smith’s mother, Kiwana Denson, and the staff at the Je’Sani Smith Foundation have made it their priority to inform the public about the dangers of water currents.

Denson and the foundation announced Saturday a partnership with the Texas Surf Museum in an effort to educate Nueces County residents and visitors about beach safety this summer.

The Je'Sani Foundation announced Saturday a partnership with the Texas Surf Museum in an effort to educate Nueces County residents and visitors about beach safety this summer.

“My son’s life was shortened by a rip current and what’s a better way to engage and educate our community members, that is what museums are for,” Denson said. “This is the perfect spot to set that foundation so that we can educate our community.”

The museum offered the foundation space to showcase a display of Smith’s story alongside information about rip currents and how to know when the water is safe.
