The U.S. men’s national soccer team will continue their bid for a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Austin. The team did not qualify for the last World Cup after advancing to the first playoff round in the two previous tournaments.
The team will face Jamaica at 6:30 p.m. CT at Q2 Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 7. The facility opened this year as the home stadium to MLS expansion franchise Austin FC, hosting the USWNT’s friendly against Nigeria in July.

Gio Reyna, Christian Pulisic likely out, Yunus Musah in on updated USMNT roster
A month after injuring his ankle during USMNT’s game against Honduras, Christian Pulsic has been left off the team’s roster for their slate of October qualifying games. Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna hasn’t recovered from an injury and was not on the initial list.
USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter told reporters he hasn’t ruled out the midfielders playing those games, describing the injuries as “day-to-day.”
Young players like Yunus Musah, 18, and Matthew Hoppe, 20, will get a chance to prove themselves.

As of this writing, tickets remain available to the Thursday night game. On Ticketmaster, the cheapest tickets available were in excess of $100 per seat.

Following their game in Austin, USMNT will have another 10 games in qualifying to play.
The following dates and matches have already been announced:
- Oct. 10 vs. Panama in Panama City, Panama at 5 p.m. CT
- Oct. 13 vs. Costa Rica in Columbus, Ohio at 6 p.m. CT
- Nov. 12 vs. Mexico in Cincinnati, Ohio. Time TBD.

Will USMNT qualify for World Cup 2022?
It’s far to early in qualifying to know for sure. Three games into a total of 14 games played, USMNT sits in third place behind Canada and Mexico.
There are eight teams competing for a spot in the Qatar World Cup. The top three teams will advance to that international tournament, with the fourth place team facing another team in an intercontinental playoff.
The 2022 World Cup is scheduled to begin on Nov. 21, 2022.
