SOUTH PADRE ISLAND/PORT ISABEL, Texas – As part of the scheduled maintenance for the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway between the cities of South Padre Island and Port Isabel, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) would like to notify the driving public that temporary lane closures will take place on the causeway as part of the preventive road work. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the TxDOT contractor to continue preventive maintenance measures and strategies to preserve the bridge’s extended service life.
The lane closures for this project will start on October 04, 2021, through February 2022. Please note that traffic will be reduced from two lanes to one lane but not for the entire length of the bridge. All lane closure sections will be approximately a mile long and will begin on the eastbound lanes.
Motorists should expect minor delays. Please observe and follow all posted warning signs, traffic control devices, and speed limit signs.
