Expect nighttime closures on I-37 near Labonte Park in Corpus Christi

The Nueces River Bridge is one of the first things motorists by the thousands each week get to see — and travel across — as they enter Corpus Christi from the north.

It’s getting a much-needed facelift, and that will mean changes, especially at night.

Contractors for the Texas Department of Transportation began their effort to widen and reconstruct roughly three miles of Interstate 37 in Corpus Christi earlier this month.

Doing so will mean various closures next week between Sharpsburg Road and the U.S. Highway 77 direct connector.

The transportation department said the closures, some of which started Sunday, are necessary so crews can continue setting barriers and temporary pavement markers.

The Texas Department of Transportation announces night time closures as part of its $85 million project to widen and reconstruct key portions of the Interstate 37 Nueces River Bridge. This map spotlights detours that will take place on I-37 from County Road 1726 to Northbound US 77.
