On May 6, 2022, City of Apodaca Mayor Cesar Garza Villarreal and McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos signed a Sister City agreement to join McAllen and Apodaca communities in a long-term mutual partnership.

To make this agreement official in Mexico, a McAllen delegation, headed by Mayor Villalobos, will travel to Apodaca to participate in the formalization of this important sister city relationship that promotes collaboration in the following areas:

  • Business, trade and investment promotion, through the exchange of trade missions to explore investment and trade opportunities that may develop between sister cities.
  • Educational exchanges to give the opportunity to students from both communities to access workshops, symposia, conferences, and internships.
  • Cultural exchanges to promote and permanently disseminate the history and regional traditions of McAllen and Apodaca
  • Tourism promotion, to establish promotional campaigns to disseminate the tourist attractions of both communities as well as the air and land connectivity routes that help the movement of people and goods between McAllen and Apodaca.
  • Exchange of good practices and experiences in urban planning, waste management, and public safety, among others.

Among the activities planned during this trip are an official Sister City Ceremony, meeting and tours at Parque de Investigación Tecnológica de Apodaca (Apodaca’s Technology Research Park,) and a meeting with CAINTRA Nuevo Leon (Nuevo Leon Chamber for the Transformation Industry) where a collaboration agreement will be signed between CAINTRA Nuevo Leon with McAllen Chamber of Commerce and McAllen Economic Development.
