Sugar Kingdom, Jonah the Whale and Island Arcade, with a candy store attached, all opened on the Island just in time for the spring break crowd.
Sugar Kingdom, located at 1601 Padre Blvd., opened one of its 12 locations on the Island about two weeks ago. As soon as patrons walk through the door, they are greeted by colorful decor accompanied by a plethora of sweet treats. Those looking for something sweet are in for a treat with all of the different candy options and an ice cream bar.
Daniel Amar, store owner, says that he has the best team working at the store and that they love the Island.
“We have stores all up and down the east coast and now all the way down here,” Amar said.
Jonah & the Whale is another new business located right next door, and with the giant whale head that greets patrons as soon as they walk up, it is sure to bring in business.
The store has been open for about two weeks, and some might call it a “one-stop shop” for South Padre Island souvenirs.
Jose Gonzalez, a store employee, says that the store has already seen a lot of business this spring break.
“We’ve been busy this spring break, with the busiest times being from 1 to 4 p.m.,” said Gonzalez.
According to Gonzalez, Jonah & the Whale has something for everyone, and it’s a great place to stop for a picture or two.
Those into gaming can stop by the new and improved Island Arcade at 2311 Padre Blvd.
