Día is an enhancement of Children’s Day, which began in 1925. Children’s Day was designated as a day to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children. In 1996, nationally acclaimed children’s book author Pat Mora proposed linking the celebration of childhood and children with literacy to found El día de los Niños and El día de los Libros. Today, Día is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds.

“Developing a solid foundation in literacy is pivotal to children’s futures, and we’re excited to make books and the library accessible to children and families in a fun way,” said Library Director Kate Horan.
The entire community is invited to celebrate children and connect them to the world of wonder through books, stories, and libraries. For more information about this event, please contact the Children’s Department at (956) 681-3010.
