Area law enforcement agency reported a number of recent separate arrests resulting in charges ranging from Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon to Possession of Controlled Substance.
ALLEGED BURGLARY
On June 6, 2023, Los Indios Police Department Officers received a call in reference to a wanted subject identified as Samuel Benavidez Jr. who was spotted near the intersection of FM 732 and Resaca Nueva, in Los Indios.
According to a report by the Los Indios PD, Benavidez was wanted in reference to several burglaries in the area. Upon arrival, LIPD Officers observed Benavidez on a bicycle in the area previously mentioned. When officers approached Benavidez, he was placed under arrest with no incident.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
On June 4, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators executed an arrest warrant in the San Benito area on Juan Omar Lopez.
On June 3, 2023, CCSO deputies responded to the San Benito area in reference to a house fire. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the complainant and took her statement.
As per the victim, the CCSO noted that she was allegedly viciously assaulted by her husband, Juan Omar Lopez, 48-years-old.
According to the CCSO, in the course of the assault, Lopez struck his wife several times with a belt. In addition, the victim stated Lopez allegedly brandished a knife. When she attempted to remove it from him, the sheriff’s office report read, she suffered minor lacerations to her hands.
Prior to the deputies’ arrival, Lopez allegedly fled the scene and was later arrested by San Benito Police Department (SBPD) officers for allegedly Driving While Intoxicated.
Due to a quick response, CCSO Investigators were able to gather enough evidence and secure an arrest warrant on Lopez for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd Degree Felony.
On June 4, 2023, Lopez was arrested at the San Benito Police Department. He was then transported and booked into the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
The cause of the house fire is still under investigation.
