The San Benito Public Library (SBPL) was once again granted accreditation and is a fully qualified member of the Texas Library System (TLS) for the upcoming 2023-24 state fiscal year, according to the City of San Benito.
While this distinction is an annual occurrence, it signifies the library’s ongoing commitment to the community, and ensures that it will continue to provide top-quality materials and educational resources to its visitors, as cited in a statement issued to the media by the City of San Benito.
“Benefits of accreditation include access to statewide interlibrary loans, grant funding, continuing education, TexShare Card programs, and technology and E-Rate resources,” read a statement from the City of San Benito.
Additional benefits include faster internet, Wi-Fi and a rich variety of literacy programs. Augustin Carrera, the San Benito Public Library Director, said this distinction is something that every public library in Texas must apply for in order to gain accreditation, and the process involves the library’s staff working closely with
City administration to assure that all minimum financial and programming requirements are met.
“It is important for the citizens of San Benito to know that their public library is recognized by the Texas Library Commission,” said Carrera. “Accreditation demonstrates the commitment and importance placed on library services by the City.”
