City employees promoted to directors – San Benito News

Earlier this week, City of San Benito officials announced the promotion of three of its employees.
Johanna Maldonado, Stephanie Sarrionandia and Anibal Garcia were all recently promoted as department heads.

Maldonado is now the City of San Benito Director of Planning & Development after serving as Planning Manager since joining the City in late 2022. She holds a Certified Public Management Certificate from the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) as well as an associate’s degree in general studies with a concentration in business from Southern New Hampshire University. She brings 10 years of municipal government experience with her, having worked in the planning departments with the cities of Pharr, Edinburg, Harlingen and Weslaco.

Sarrionandia was named the City of San Benito Finance Director after having served as the City’s Assistant Finance Director since July 2022. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting as well as a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from UTRGV, and has extensive auditing experience.

Meanwhile, Garcia is now the City’s Public Works Director. A U.S. Navy veteran, Garcia was hired as Capital Improvement Project Coordinator in July 2022 and was later promoted to Assistant Public Works Director.

He has also served as the City of San Benito Interim Public Works Director since February. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Management from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX.
