RGV Fishing Area and Waterway Cleanups organized a cleanup for Bird Island at the “Y” of the Brownsville Ship Channel on Sept. 29, 2023.
RGV Fishing Area and Waterway Cleanups, a Texas non-profit organization dedicated to keeping the Rio Grande Valley’s ecosystems clean, completed its first cleanup in September 2018.
According to Richard Hitchcox, the founder of RGV Fishing Area and Waterway Cleanups, Captain Henry Rodriguez, with Henry Charters, a director on the cleanup board, initially brought up the idea of doing a cleanup at Bird Island.
