The 2023 MLB National League Championship Series continued on Saturday night with the Philadelphia Phillies taking down the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5, and we’ve got you covered with all the action from start to finish!
Here are the top plays!
Phillies strike first
Bryson Stott gave Philadelphia the early lead with two outs in the top of the first inning, smacking an RBI single to right field.
With runners on the corners, Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno threw down to second base, but Ketel Marte turned and threw back home as Bryce Harper tried to score from third; Harper collided with Moreno at home plate and scored. The Phillies led 2-0.
Yeah, it’s gone …
On the third pitch of the sixth inning, Kyle Schwarber launched a ball deep into the right-center field seats. The home run gave the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
Two batters later, Harper demolished a pitch deep into the right-center field seats for the Phillies’ second homer of the inning.
Alek Thomas got the Diamondbacks on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to right-center field.
Two more for comfort
With a runner on second and two outs in the top half of the eighth, Realmuto sent a pitch over the left field wall. The Phillies took a 6-1 lead, their largest of the night.
Wheeler plays the part
The backbone of Philadelphia’s pitching staff put together a terrific start in Game 5. Across seven innings, Wheeler surrendered just one run and seven baserunners, while totaling eight strikeouts. He was relieved for Jeff Hoffman to begin the bottom half of the eighth.
