In a significant announcement, officials gathered for a press conference to unveil an exciting marketing collaboration between the San Antonio Spurs and South Padre Island. Mayor Patrick McNulty opened the conference by saying, “It’s a great day for South Padre Island to be the official escape for the San Antonio Spurs,” signifying a new multi-year partnership with the San Antonio Spurs, designating the island as the official island escape for the NBA team.
The collaboration promises numerous opportunities for Spurs fans, attendees of arena events and South Padre Island enthusiasts, and it will cement the island’s presence in San Antonio and among basketball fans.
According to Blake Henry, South Padre Island CVB Executive Director, “We are thrilled to enter into this exciting multi-year partnership with the San Antonio Spurs.” He added, “This collaboration will boost domestic awareness in San Antonio and within the Spurs community and enhance our visibility among the fans that tune in to the games on TV.”
The partnership kicked off with the commencement of the Spurs’ 2023-24 season, which began with their home game on October 25, 2023. South Padre Island is set to feature a multitude of digital and in-arena elements, including concourse displays and digital endcaps. This enables fans attending the games to explore South Padre Island’s attractions and experiences.
As part of the partnership, the San Antonio Spurs will host a social media-based campaign offering their fans of arena events and games the unique opportunity to win a spring break experience at South Padre Island, Texas’s only tropical island oasis. This sweepstakes will run for eight weeks and can be entered through the Spurs and South Padre Island’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts.
