RIO GRANDE VALEY, Texas – According to U.S. News and World Report, 102 IDEA elementary and middle schools are the best charter schools in the state of Texas, 45 of those are from Rio Grande Valley. This annual list of rankings reflects the rigor and success of our commitment to our students on the road to college and in life.
The “2024 Best Elementary and Middle Schools” ranking analyzes more than 79,000 public schools nationwide. Within Texas elementary school rankings, 21 IDEA Rio Grande Valley Academy schools ranked on the list, with IDEA Academy Brownsville ranking in the top 5% of best charter elementary schools. In the state middle school rankings, 24 IDEA Rio Grande Valley College Preparatory schools ranked in the list, with five schools ranking in the top 10% of best charter middle schools. The methodology for the rankings focused on state assessments of students who were proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts while accounting for student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects, and how well schools are educating their students. Student-teacher ratios are applied to break ties in the overall score.

The 2024 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings are based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. For district-level rankings, at least two of the top performing schools must rank in the top 75% of the overall elementary or middle school rankings to qualify for district-level recognition
