Alleged SpaceX trespasser arrested – Port Isabel-South Padre Press


A man apprehended and accused of trespassing on SpaceX grounds faces an additional misdemeanor charge after allegedly resisting transportation to the county jail.

According to Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza’s office, Ruben Alexis Sanchez was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass and Resisting Transportation after being apprehended by security personnel at SpaceX’s Starbase facility located at Boca Chica Beach.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the incident occurred on Monday, February 26, 2024, at about 12:30 a.m. About that time, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies, the report reads, responded to the SpaceX installation on Hwy 4 regarding a person or persons allegedly trespassing on the property.

According to the CCSO, at that time, sheriff’s deputies made contact with SpaceX security personnel, who reported that a person operating a vehicle trespassed into the SpaceX facilities beyond the no trespassing and private property signs.

Sheriff’s deputies then made contact with the operator of the vehicle and identified him as Sanchez. According to the report, Sanchez informed deputies that he wanted to show his friend the rockets and furthermore identified himself as a former SpaceX employee.

To that, sheriff’s deputies responded to Sanchez that since he was a former employee, he should know the facility is private property and that entry is forbidden. Sanchez did not reply to the deputy’s comment, the report goes on to read.

Sheriff’s deputies then placed Sanchez under arrest and transported him to a CCSO patrol unit where he allegedly refused to enter the unit. The report indicates that deputies used the least amount of force necessary to place Sanchez in the patrol unit, however deputies allege that during transportation to the county jail, Sanchez, “kept banging on the plexi-glass divider.”

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sanchez and transported him to the Cameron County, Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Sanchez was charged with Criminal Trespass; TPC: 30.05, a Class “B” Misdemeanor and Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation; TPC: 38.03, a Class “A” Misdemeanor.
