EDINBURG, Texas – State Representative Terry Canales received the honor of being presented with the 2024 ABC Texas Legislative Champion Eagle Award. The event was graciously hosted by ABC Texas Coastal Bend and D. Wilson Construction at Edinburg CISD’s currently under-construction Collegiate High School. The award is presented each biennium by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Texas and their President Geoffrey Tahuahua to a legislator for their exemplary efforts and unwavering commitment to supporting the commercial and industrial construction industry.

Throughout the years, Representative Terry Canales has prioritized and remained steadfast in his determination to advancing industry and promoting sustainable development, particularly during this most recent 2023 Legislative Session. This award seeks to accredit the Representative for the crucial role he played in the development of industry this year while also applauding his continuous legislative work and dedicated advocacy. The Representative shared his appreciation for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Texas and President Geoffrey Tahuahua and expressed his gratitude for both the award and their support.

I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this incredible award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Texas for my contributions to the field of industrial construction in our great state. It is with immense gratitude and the utmost enthusiasm that I accept this recognition. Throughout my years in the legislature, ABC Texas has been a pillar of the community that seeks to uplift the people of this great state. Our collective commitment to working through and solving issues that have affected many has implemented meaningful policy reforms. I am grateful to have played a role in the passage of this legislation that will have a lasting impact on the construction industry in Texas.

It is crucial that no matter how much progress we make, we never become disconnected from the reality of how that progress is made. The reality is that none of this state’s success would have been possible without the builders and contractors behind the scenes making it happen. Too often, builders and contractors who perform fair and honest work on a project are forced into lawsuits that were not their fault, placing an unequal and unfair burden of costs and time on these small businesses that play an essential role in this industry. These kinds of setbacks are detrimental to these small businesses. These lawsuits work directly against the betterment of our great state and people, and we continue to work hard to avoid them. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Associated Builders and Contractors of Texas for this recognition and commend their unwavering dedication to their contributions to advancing a vital sector in our state. I look forward to working alongside them in the next session as we continue to improve and enrich the great state of Texas.
