In recognition of National Heat Awareness Day, El Paso Animal Services, the El Paso Police Department Animal Cruelty Unit and the El Paso Fire Department are partnering to host “HeatSafe: Protecting Pets & People,” an event to raise awareness of the dangers that extreme heat pose to people and pets in our community.

Every summer, the City receives hundreds of calls due to heat-related emergencies such as a child or pet in a locked hot car and pets left outside without proper shade or water.

During the event, the departments will collaborate to host a live “hot car” demonstration to display how severe weather can impact the health of humans and pets. The educational event will also have numerous activities to include educational booths, information on local resources, free pet microchips and ID tags, discounted pet vaccines provided by Eastlake Animal Clinic, giveaways for the first 50 attendees and more.
