Sea Turtle Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of sea turtles, offers the unique experience of witnessing a live Kemp’s Ridley Sea turtle hatchling release.
During a public hatchling release, spectators can stand in a designated area to watch the turtles safely make their way to the ocean. The hatching season runs from Jun.-Aug., but exact dates cannot be predicted as the turtles can hatch at any moment. Instead, rough estimates are provided, according to Sea Turtle Inc. officials.
Announcements for hatching releases are made on the official Sea Turtle Inc. Facebook page on the morning of the nest’s hatching. Releases occur between 6:45-7:45 a.m. at Cameron County Beach Access 4. Parking is free but limited, so early arrival is recommended. Only authorized individuals are permitted to handle the turtles, and no unauthorized personnel may release them, according to Sea Turtle Inc. officials.
