The beaches contiguous to Brownsville attracted large crowds Sunday, probably 1,000 persons visiting Padre Island beach, while large numbers also visited Boca Chica and the Washington beach, the latter being on the Mexican side of the river.
Petty thieves ransacked clothing left in the bathhouse at the Padre Island beach, and many bathers found their pockets had been emptied of small change, trinkets, etc. The bathhouse owners maintain service for those who desire to leave their valuables, however, with the result that the losses were comparatively small. All roads are reported in good condition at this time.
