Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an area man last week accused of family violence and drug possession.
According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), deputies arrested an individual known as “Big Mike” for assault family violence, possession of marijuana, and endangering a child.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at approximately 7:27 a.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in San
Benito regarding a family disturbance, reads a CCSO report.
Upon arriving at the residence, deputies interviewed the individual identified as the female victim, and learned that the suspect, Michael Felix Rocha, a.k.a. “Big Mike,” had allegedly assaulted her moments earlier. Deputies were able to corroborate these allegations by observing injuries on the victim which were consistent with her statement.
Upon placing Rocha, a.k.a. “Big Mike” under arrest, deputies allegedly located a usable amount of marijuana, which deputies say belonged to him. Through their investigation, deputies also learned that moments earlier, Rocha had been allegedly smoking marijuana in the same location where his minor son was located and had also left the marijuana there, easily accessible to the minor, therefore placing him in imminent danger, according to the CCSO report.
Rocha was charged with T.P.C. 22.01(a)(1): Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Member, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, T.P.C. 22.041: Endangering a Child, a State Jail felony, and T.H.S.C.481.121: Possession of Marijuana, a Class “B” misdemeanor. He was transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito for processing.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
