The Town of Laguna Vista held a regular council meeting on Sept. 10. No public comments were made at this meeting.

The council approved minutes from past meetings and the monthly financial reports.

Photographer John Sanez of Life Signs Photography is working with the town on their official website. Sanez said he would take more pictures of the surrounding area within the town when the weather permits. The council announced that some broken links on the website were fixed. They also expressed a desire for the town’s financial information to be easily viewable on the website. The council stressed the importance of the website being easy to use for citizens.

Approval for the layout for the Laguna Vista Police Department building was tabled due to the pending data needed to make the correct layout. The council approved ARPA funds for $180,000 to finish the police department building.

The council approved an award to the selected grant management firm for grant pre-application, application and implementation services for the town.

A Cyber Liability and Data Breach Response Interlocal Agreement with the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool was approved. According to the council, the pool would provide coverage like a defense lawsuit or payment of damages in the event of a data breach, among other things.

The council held the first reading of designating restricted and designated fund balances for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. It was reported that the town had designated $721,986 on the 2023-2024 budget and would need to increase by $16,103 for a total of $738,089.

The council clarified that the city had completed a project on the local library and that the Friends of the Library were pursuing a separate project with the CDC for further library renovations. The CDC did not hold a meeting to approve the project, and the council elected to discuss the matter at a later meeting.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there was no city manager report, and the meeting did not go into an executive session.
