Alleged assault investigated – San Benito News

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, at approximately 3:07 a.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 29000 block of Jefferson Avenue, in the vicinity of San Benito, about an alleged aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), upon arrival, deputies made contact with a reported 52-year-old victim (52) who advised deputies that a male subject, later identified as Jonathan Hernandez (29), had arrived at his residence and allegedly pointed an assault rifle at him.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) the victim informed deputies that there were two other subjects, later identified as Juan Manuel Lerma Galindo (34), and Luz Lerma (36), with Jonathan Hernandez.

The reported victim noted that all subjects had trespassed onto his property knowing he had “No Trespassing” signs posted at the entrance and were refusing to leave when asked to do so. The victim feared losing his life or sustaining a serious bodily injury when Hernandez pointed the rifle and threatened to kill him.

According to the sheriff’s office report, minutes later, assisting deputies located the suspects at the 30000 block of Petras Rd., San Benito.

Jonathan Emmanuel Hernandez was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, TPC: 22.02, Criminal Trespass, TPC: 30.05, and four outstanding warrants. Juan Manuel Lerma Galindo and Luz Lerma were charged with Criminal Trespass, TPC: 30.05. All three subjects were transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito and were booked on said crimes. Deputies later located the rifle and submitted it as evidence.

In a separate unrelated investigation outside the San Benito City Limits, on September 23, 2024, deputies responded to the Los Indios Port of Entry regarding a male with an active warrant.

According to the CCSO, upon arrival at Los Indios Port of Entry, deputies made contact with Customs and Border Protection Agents who had detained Hugo Blanco for an active warrant out of Harris County for the offense of Criminal Trespass (warrant # 2382454). Deputies placed Blanco under arrest for the active warrant and transported him to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center for booking procedures.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
