With the BYE week officially up and out of the way, the La Feria Lions are ready for District Action as La Feria will have three games to attempt to not only capture a district title, but clinch a good seed for the Playoffs. The Lions had a successful non-district campaign, going 3-3 and being at .500. Here is what played out in non-district.
The Lions opened up 2024 against the Ingleside Mustangs. In what can be easily described as a rough night, La Feria struggled on both sides of the ball. The Mustangs capitalized and took week one with a huge 27-0 win over La Feria.
The Lions then had another crucial test against former district rival Hidalgo, a team who remained in 4A DI, while La Feria was relegated to DII. La Feria then won with a two touchdown fourth quarter to win 27-14.
The momentum carried over into weeks three and four as the Lions took on Raymondville and Valley View. The offense rolled on for La Feria as the Lions defeated the Bearkats 27-13 and blanked the Tigers 34-0.
Things took a wild turn for the Lions as the next two weeks did not go as anticipated. The Lions would be put to battle against former district foe Zapata, and what started as a close battle, fell in favor of the Hawks as Zapata would win 35-28. To bounce back, the Lions faced off against TAPPS powerhouse Brownsville St. Joseph Academy. The Lions struggled on both sides of the line as the Bloodhounds would rout La Feria 62-13.
Now heading in 16-4A DII, the Lions were relegated from DI, and put into DII. In the previous realignment, Raymondville and Bishop were both in 4A DII, but switched places with Kingsville King and La Feria.
The Lions sit in a 4 team district. Although all four teams reach the playoffs, it still important win as many games as possible, as standings will determine seeding for the playoffs.
The three district games for La Feria will be at Grulla this friday. The Lions will then take on Port Isabel in their final home game on October 25. To wrap up the regular season La Feria will travel up to Kingsville to take on the King Brahmas.
The Lions will look to use the experience garnered in non-district to capture district gold and place high in the seeding for the postseason.
