South Padre Island will be the home of a new health clinic, as of Thursday, Nov. 14.
The Family Wellness Clinic is affiliated with Harlingen Medical Center. It is located in an existing clinic building at 3401 Padre Blvd., Suite A, South Padre Island, bayside neighboring Josephine’s Kitchen.
According to the clinic, it will provide “convenient primary care” including adolescent and adult care, in-office lab testing, occupational care services and behavioral health services. Specific services include,
immunizations and vaccinations, diabetes management, flu seasonal vaccine, management of high blood pressure, management of chronic conditions, treatment of minor injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, routine
checkups, specialist referrals, sport physicals and testing for strep, influenza, mononucleosis as well as anxiety and depression screenings.
After Nov. 14, it will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. According to the clinic, based on the needs of the community, opening hours may be expanded.
Representatives from the clinic have stated that it will accept most insurances. According to a press release, same-day appointments will be available as well as walk-ins.
A grand opening was held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, where community members met the clinic’s healthcare providers and toured the facility.
Nina Williams Herring, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, is the clinic’s Family Nurse Practitioner. She previously held this position at Shiloh Residential Treatment Center in Manvel, in the Houston area, as well as at
Signify Health in Dallas and at Georgetown Behavioral Health near Austin. According to clinic officials, she has nearly eight years of experience providing acute care, wellness exams and chronic disease management
for diverse populations as well as 15 years of experience in the mental health field. She has acted as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at LEI Behavioral Services and at Nexus Physician & Services in Houston. In addition, Herring previously taught as an Adjunct Professor/Clinical Instructor at the Texas Women’s University Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing in Houston.
Herring holds a post-master’s certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, as well as a Master’s Degree in Nursing / Family Practice Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University in St. Louis,
Missouri and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. While attending Lamar University, she received an award for “Humanitarian of the Class”.
