The Port Isabel Independent School District [PIISD] has embarked on a campus-wide beautification effort to improve the aesthetic quality of its campus. This comes alongside the completion of the Career and
Technical Education [CTE] classrooms at the high school.
The campuses across the district are seeing decor through slogans, student models and murals. All of which are tarpon themed. Students at the high school can enjoy slogans such as “Steadily we face the world so
fearlessly” and “Tarpons Welcome” as they enter and walk around the school.
According to Juliette Gonzalez, communications specialist at PIISD, the efforts are to make a more “friendly environment” and build school pride. Gonzalez added that there are more plans to improve the
atmosphere at the school that have yet to be officially unveiled to the public.
“We look forward to continuing to be more creative and making our hallways homey,” said Gonzalez.
The high school is also preparing its final steps in its CTE building. According to a previous PRESS article, construction officially began in August 2023. Gonzalez said the school plans to hold CTE classes in
the building starting Jan. 7.
According to the district website, the CTE program at PIECHS offers courses across various professional fields. This includes Health Science, STEM, Manufacturing, Hospitality and Tourism, Education, Audio and
Video technology, and much more. Students in these courses can earn professional certifications that assist them in employment after high school.
PIISD is dedicated to providing a “safe, rigorous, and innovative educational experience for all students.” For more information on the district and the CTE program, visit pi-isd.net. For updates on the district, follow
