The Andy Bowie Park, located at 7300 State Park Road 100, South Padre Island, is set to receive
renovations. The park has been closed for construction since Feb. 6 and will stay closed until further notice.
According to an official press release from Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, the official
groundbreaking for the park was held on Feb. 5. The event saw appearances from Commissioner Precinct
One Sofia Benavides, Commissioner Precinct Two Joey Lopez, Commissioner Precinct Three David Garza
and Commissioner Precinct four Gus Ruiz.

“I’m looking forward to the new improvements at Andy Bowie Park. The improvements to this popular
beach access area will result in positive changes that children and families will benefit from for years to
come,” said Benavides.

According to the park’s listing on the Cameron County website, it currently features a parking area, full
RV Hook-up sights, a beachside covered pavilion, picnic tables, restrooms and showers and a boardwalk to
the beach. The release states that the renovations will demolish two pavilions that “have exceeded their
serviceable life and are no longer safe for occupancy,” and will be replaced with “elevated plaza pavilions”
with picnic tables. The south parking lot, pedestrian beach walkway and general aesthetic improvements
will be made for longevity and user ease.

The press release states the total project cost is roughly $6,900,000.00. It is being funded by the American
Rescue Plan Act [ARPA], SpaceX and Cameron County Certificates of Obligation. The engineering firm for
the projects is Green, Rubiano, and Associates Inc. The general contractor is A&I Custom Manufacturing, LLC.
