The San Benito Cultural Arts Center recently unveiled its exhibition, “Mujer-Eres: Raíces.” The exhibit opened on March 8 and will remain open until June 7.

According to Aledia Garcia, San Benito Cultural Arts Department Director, the exhibit is a collection of diverse artists and multiple art forms. Some items include ceramics, paintings, sculptures, textiles, mixed media and installation art. Each piece is focused on themes such as identity, heritage, and resilience.

“The artists incorporate powerful imagery such as ancestral symbols, nature-inspired motifs, and representations of memory. The overarching theme is the exploration of femininity—both personal and collective definitions—highlighting stories of womanhood, strength, and connection to heritage,” said Garcia.

Garcia collaborated with Sam Rawls and Cecilia Sierra, event organizers, to bring the exhibit to life. They also worked with Museum Coordinator Joaquin Castillo to find the theme that resonated with the exhibit.

“We hope guests leave with a sense of empowerment and appreciation for the rich cultural narratives woven into each piece. “Mujer-Eres: Raíces” is an invitation to reflect on one’s own roots and the stories that shape our identities and find the common thread that links us together,” said Garcia.

According to Garcia, each artist brings something unique to the exhibition, giving it a life completely of its own. “Mujer-Eres: Raíces is more than an art exhibition — it’s a celebration of heritage, storytelling, and the powerful role of women in shaping cultural narratives. As Cultural Arts Director, I believe this exhibition serves as a tribute to the strength and beauty of our roots. Through art, we honor the past, embrace the present, and inspire future generations to carry forward their cultural legacies,” said Garcia.

A press release from the Cultural Arts Center gave some background on the exhibit, explaining that it’s an annual occurrence that spotlights the talent of women within the region. The show began in 2015 and took a brief hiatus, but it returned in full swing in 2022 and is celebrating its tenth year.

The San Benito Cultural Center is located at 225 East Stenger Street in San Benito. Guests can access the exhibit with standard admission to the Cultural Heritage Museum. The museum is located at 250 East Heywood in San Benito. For more information, contact the museum at (956) 658-8493.
