The San Benito City Commission held a regular meeting on March 4.

Public comments opened with Mike Travis. He thanked the San Benito Police Department, Housing Authority, and local lawn mowing services for their contributions to the area. Travis mentioned the city’s ongoing issue with VARCO, a construction company, regarding the Resaca Village shopping center. He mentioned an interaction with several San Benito locals and how none of them were keeping up with the issue.

Eddie Loa spoke about access to an easement that the local resort Fun-n-Sun is covering. According to him, the issue has persisted for some time and has left him unable to access the area.

A public hearing was held for property rezoning requests for areas on the San Benito Land and Water Company subdivision. Public hearings for a Conditional Use Permit were also held for a liquor store, an automobile sales establishment, and the placement of a portable building.

The Commission approved the Final Plat of Le Blanc Subdivision, the conditional use permit to operate a liquor store, an automobile sales establishment, and the placement of a portable building. The minutes from the Feb. 18 San Benito regular commission meeting were also approved. Submission of a grant application for the fiscal year 2026 Operation Lone Star Grant Program was approved. The Commission also approved the closure of streets spanning from Bowie to Rose and then Business 77 from 7-9 a.m. on April 5 for the Resaca City Bike Tour event.

First readings for ordinances amending the zoning map of the City of San Benito for areas within the San Benito Land and Water Company were held. The commission decided to table Place 1 and 2 positions for appointment or reappointment to the Parks and Recreation Board.

The Commission decided to reject a bid received on a property located in a San Benito subdivision. They decided to proceed with legal counsel regarding the possible purchase of the struck-off property in conjunction with other local taxing entities as discussed in the executive session.

The Commission made no action on two legal cases and proceeded as discussed in the executive session for the Project Agreement for Professional Engineering Services with Trimad Consultants, LLC for the Ratliff Waterline Improvement Project.
