Soldier Threatens

To Shoot Citizen Of Brownsville
A soldier with Sergeant stripes swaggered about Millers Hotel the evening of Saint Patrick’s Day with a six shooter in his hands, threatening to shoot down a citizen.

We would remind said soldier that the citizen pays taxes to support the army that he may be protected in life, limb, and property, and not that he may be shot down by them. Besides, shooting down people is not commendable No How. The enlightening effects of corn cordial were doubtless the great fault. (Daily Ranchero, Brownsville, March 19, 1870)
