The San Benito Greyhounds earned their second two-game win streak of the season, both wins against non-district opponents.

The last time they won twice in consecutive fashion was late last month against Edinburg and Donna North.

The latter was during the first game of the San Benito Tournament.

This time, San Benito defeated Edinburg North (13-3) and Weslaco (8-4), both games away.
The wins improved the ‘Hounds’ season record to 7-8.

San Benito needed the first two innings to notch the win against Weslaco. The Panthers batted the top of the first inning, scoring three runs with San Benito pitcher Robby Leal on the mound. The Hounds, however, responded with two runs in the first and four runs in the second inning.

Leal earned the win, pitching four innings. Reliever Maurio Arizpe closed out the Panthers, striking out four batters.

Arizpe helped his own cause earning three hits and four RBIs. He also had a homerun.
Justin Montemayor scored three runs.

Before beginning District 32-6A play, San Benito has one more non-district game next week (March 22) at home against Harlingen South.

The ‘Hounds’ district opener will be at Brownsville Hanna on Friday, March 25.

With district on the horizon, the team with the best record in District 32-6A is Los Fresnos at 14-3-1.

In fact, Los Fresnos is ranked No. 13, according to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association statewide poll.

Brownsville Veterans Memorial is 9-8, while Harlingen is 8-8. San Benito’s record is one game under .500, and Hanna is 4-10.
