Port Isabel native Armando “Dito” Rivera Jr. has officially announced his candidacy for Port Isabel City Commissioner Place 2 in the upcoming May 3 election.

Born and raised in Port Isabel, Rivera is a proud graduate of Port Isabel High School, Class of 2002. He later attended the Texas Culinary Academy Le Cordon Bleu, where he trained to become a chef. Rivera believes he
brings a strong business acumen to the race, drawing from his experience as owner and founder of Real Time Fitness and Juice Bar, LLC, and as part-owner of Laguna Bob, LLC.

“With years of experience managing multiple businesses, I believe I can be a valuable asset to our city,” Rivera said. “I care deeply about our community and pledge to support the sustainable growth of Port Isabel while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Rivera said his commitment to public service is inspired in part by his late grandfather, Arturo Galvan, a former mayor of Port Isabel known for his contributions to the community. The Arturo Galvan Coastal Park was named in his honor. Rivera also credits his grandmother, Mary Lou Galvan, as a source of inspiration. A longtime educator at Garriga Elementary and the writer of the school’s spirit song, she dedicated over 40 years to teaching in the district.

“I have deep respect and admiration for the leaders who came before me, especially within my own family. I am committed to carrying on that legacy,” Rivera said. “I humbly ask for your vote on May 3, 2025.”
