This is getting ridiculous.

There’s been another alligator spotted in the Rio Grande Valley, this time in McAllen where city officials are cautioning residents to be on the lookout for the large reptile.

A month or so removed from when another alligator was freed from a Weslaco storm drain in March, this particular alligator in McAllen has been spotted near a canal on Second Street in the vicinity of Pecan Boulevard.

“The City of McAllen is urging the public to use extreme caution after an alligator was reportedly sighted earlier today …” the city said in a news release Monday evening.

If you come across the gator, you’re asked to call McAllen Animal Care Services at (956) 681-1919.

“Do not attempt to approach, feed, or capture the animal,” the city said. “Alligators are wild and potentially dangerous animals, and any interaction could result in serious injury. City personnel and trained professionals are actively monitoring the situation and will respond to any reports accordingly.”

Alligators are not an uncommon sight in the Valley, and can be seen sometimes in storm drains, reservoirs or on riverbanks, with some seen in San Benito and Harlingen in recent years before the appearances in Weslaco and now McAllen this spring, likely due to the flooding the region experienced in March.

“Public safety is our top priority, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work to ensure the community remains safe,” McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil said in a statement.
