Laguna Vista residents can expect new growth in the coming years following the Town Council’s recent approval of a major residential and commercial development by Gallery Homes within Reinvestment Zone No. 1.

The project, approved unanimously by the Laguna Vista City Council, includes plans for 375 new homesites within the South Padre Island Golf Club area. The development will also feature two miles of shaded walking trails, a six-acre lake designed to attract native birds and wildlife, and more than 30 acres of open green space.

A 10-acre commercial section along Highway 100 is planned as part of the project and is expected to bring new retail and dining options, along with local employment opportunities.

Gallery Homes President Jason Starkey said the company’s goal is to design a community that reflects the South Texas lifestyle. “People here enjoy the outdoors — whether that’s golfing, fishing, birding, or just relaxing with friends under the sun,” Starkey said. “We want to create beautiful homes, beautiful spaces, and beautiful lives.”

The company is coordinating with town officials to ensure the project supports local infrastructure while maintaining Laguna Vista’s natural setting. The development aligns with the objectives of the community’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), which is intended to fund public amenities and infrastructure improvements without raising local property taxes.

“Our public-private partnership with the Town of Laguna Vista allows us to offer amenities similar to those in other growing South Texas towns,” Starkey said. “This is about fostering responsible growth within an environment that’s second to none.”

Construction timelines have not yet been announced, but the project is expected to mark a significant step forward in Laguna Vista’s residential and economic development plans.
