BROWNSVILLE, TX—The San Benito Greyhounds resume District 32-6A play at Brownsville’s Sams Stadium as they face the Veterans Chargers Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.

San Benito enters the game with a 1-1 district record, while Veterans come in 1-2 and will be playing their district finale.

The Chargers lost their district opener to the Harlingen Cardinals, 40-39, on a last-second play that their defense couldn’t stop.

Last week, the Los Fresnos Falcons dominated Veterans, 40-7.

The Chargers’ district win has been against the Brownsville Hanna Golden Eagles, 42-7.

The ‘Hounds’ defense aims to contain the Veterans’ offense. That is a challenge since their two running backs have each gained at least 1,000 yards.

Their quarterback, Jake Saenz, doesn’t pass frequently but has at least 500 yards rushing. He’s been intercepted four times. The offense has also lost the ball eight times through fumbles thus far this season.

The Veterans remain a talented team, as their 7-2 season record shows.

On the flip side, San Benito is 1-7 on the year; its lone victory is against Hanna.

The ‘Hounds’ offense has improved since the start of district play, now totaling 58 points.

They’ll need to score to have a chance to win. They did better compared to Veterans when the ‘Hounds also lost against Los Fresnos, 42-25.

Both Harlingen and Los Fresnos sit atop the district standings with 2-0 records.

The ‘Hounds’ district finale will be played at Bobby Morrow Stadium against the Harlingen Cardinals, on Nov. 7.

Last season, San Benito earned a spot in the postseason after finishing fourth and beating Hanna and Harlingen.
