This past Saturday, October 25 the PIECHS Lady Tarpons volleyball team faced off against Jubilee Brownsville in their final regular season game.  By the end of the fourth set, the Lady Tarpons came out victorious in the match against the Lady Titans by a score of 3-1.

The win marked the Lady Tarpons third straight win as they wrapped up the regular season, and added their sixth win out of their last eight games. The win also solidified their third place standing in the district and a trip to the volleyball playoffs.

Girls Head Volleyball Coach, Johvonne Howard was pleased with her teams’ win, “the coaching staff is very proud of the girls for going back-to-back playoff appearances which hadn’t been done since the 2016-2017 seasons.” Said Howard. “They have worked hard and trusted the process.”

Unlike in football where teams are divided into two divisions- a large and smaller one prior to the season, in volleyball the teams are separated AFTER the playoff teams have been determined.

Playoff seeding was postponed for a few days due to Jubilee Brownsville and Hidalgo ECHS ended up tied for the fourth and final playoff spot. A final meeting between the two had Jubilee’s Lady Titans advancing to the playoffs.

The (11-22) Port Isabel ECHS Lady Tarpons are set to face off against the (13-11) Harmony School of Excellence Lady Hawks (of Laredo) on Thursday, October 30 at Rio Grande City or RGC La Grulla.

Other Bi-district matches include, (Division 2): (7-12) Jubilee Brownsville vs (11-9) Zapata, (Division 1): (17-9) Valley View vs (29-12) Tuloso-Midway and (18-15) La Feria vs (33-7) Calallen.

On a side note, the PIECHS girls’ 9th Grade team finished the season as Co-Champions and the JV team finished as the district’s Runner-Up.
