Sara’s Story of Recovery, Renewal – Port Isabel-South Padre Press

After years of success as a hairdresser in the high-end neighborhoods and luxury salons of Dallas, Sara Gabbert traded the city skyline for the serenity of the coast. Now serving the Laguna Madre area, she brings not only her talent but also a renewed spirit and a mission to help women heal from the inside out.

Sara’s journey from success to surrender has become a story of grace, renewal, and purpose. After battling alcohol addiction and confronting deep childhood trauma, she has been sober for more than two years, a transformation she credits entirely to God’s grace.

“I left Dallas to heal my body, mind, and spirit,” Sara shared. “This isn’t just a hair salon, it’s like a family to me. It’s a place where love, support, and encouragement help women rebuild from the inside out.”

Out of her own recovery, Sara created a safe space for women to connect, share, exchange numbers, and grow together in faith and friendship. Some of the women she mentors are also in recovery or just beginning to rebuild their lives.

From her salon in Port Isabel, Sara believes that something as simple as a haircut can help restore confidence and dignity. “Many of us have let ourselves go during hard times,” she said. “But that doesn’t define who we are, it’s part of the story that shaped us.”

Today, Sara volunteers her time mentoring women both online and in person. Whether through a heartfelt conversation, a fresh haircut, or a quiet prayer, her goal is to help women feel seen, supported, and strong.

“Life gets better when we find our purpose and surrender our pain to God,” Sara said. “We all have something we’re healing from…childhood wounds, heartbreak, or life’s unexpected lessons.”

Her  purpose  is   clear:  to  remind  women that healing is possible, that beauty begins within, and that faith can turn our hardest battles into our greatest blessings.
