The suspect has been identified as Fernando Martinez Henize, 49, of Naperville, Illinois. According to local authorities, the incident started around 6:30 p.m. when resort staff reported a disturbance to the South Padre Island Police Department (SPI PD).
Responding officers established a secure perimeter and called in assistance from several agencies, including the county SWAT team. After hours of “intensive de-escalation efforts,” Henize surrendered without any injuries to guests or officers.
He is now facing multiple charges, including five counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of assault family violence. His bond was set at $640,485.
