The Laguna Vista Community Development Corporation voted Monday to table a funding request from the Laguna Vista Recreation Association for repairs to the town marina’s boat ramp, scheduling a workshop on Nov. 17 for further review. The board cited the need for complete engineering plans, multiple bids, and legal clarification before deciding whether to use economic-development funds on the project.

During public comment, several residents questioned whether CDC funds should support improvements at a membership-based facility, referencing the CDC’s articles of incorporation and the marina lease, which states the association is responsible for its own maintenance and repairs. Others expressed concern about ensuring any public support benefits the whole community.

Supporters countered that the marina is a valuable community amenity that contributes to property values and quality of life in Laguna Vista. CDC board member Curt Chamberlain described the marina as “a jewel of Laguna Vista.”

Board members emphasized the need to carefully evaluate the financial and legal details before committing public funds. City staff will review the marina lease, prior funding discussions, and engineering information before the board meets again.

The meeting also included board reorganization. The vice president stepped down from her officer role, and the board elected a new president and vice president. A process will open soon to fill an additional board vacancy. The marina proposal will return at a Nov. 17 workshop for further review before any funding decision is made.
