On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) assisted U.S. Border Patrol Agents in the pursuit of a vehicle that ended near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 732 and U.S. Business 77 in San Benito.

According to a San Benito police report, when the vehicle, a tan Chevy Tahoe, came to a stop, several occupants exited and ran into a warehouse at a nearby utility trailer business. Officers then detained 15 individuals.

According to the SBPD, authorities believe the individuals are in the country without authorization. The investigation has been turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident, said SBPD officials, and the investigation is ongoing.

Several suspects involved in a chase with the Texas Department of Public Safety crashed in San Benito, police said last Thursday.

The suspects fled the scene after crashing on Oscar Williams Road.

San Benito police assisted DPS in searching for the suspects by drone, but were not able to locate them, police said.

The police activity prompted a temporary lockdown at San Benito High School, according to the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District. District officials say the lockdown was a precautionary measure for all students and staff.

The lockdown was lifted at 12:15 p.m.
