The South Padre Island Board of REALTORS® (SPIBOR) recognized veteran Island broker Troy Giles as its 2025 REALTOR® of the Year, honoring a career marked by decades of leadership, civic service, and contributions to the Island’s development.
The award was presented during the South Padre Island Board of Realtors Installation of Officers, where SPIBOR leadership highlighted Giles as a “pioneer” whose involvement has spanned the early formation of South Padre Island through its evolution into an internationally known destination.
According to SPIBOR 2025 President Glenda George, Giles played a significant role in shaping the Island’s future from its earliest days, including contributing to the original Town Charter in 1974. He was also involved in the creation of several foundational community institutions, including the Laguna Madre Area Chamber of Commerce, the South Padre Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, and the original Tourist Development Corporation.
SPIBOR also recognized Giles’ long history of public service. He served on the Town Board of Aldermen from 1993 to 1995, where he contributed to key initiatives that remain part of Island life today. These included helping establish the current Beach Management Program, supporting single-family townhome subdivisions, and advancing the Island’s Economic Development Corporation.
In addition to local government leadership, Giles was credited with helping attract high-profile events that increased the Island’s exposure worldwide, including the Miss USA Pageants, Miss Texas USA Pageants, and the first Offshore Powerboat Races—events that helped expand South Padre Island’s tourism reach and reputation.
Giles’ impact extends beyond civic milestones. SPIBOR noted his continued volunteer work through Chapel By The Sea and the Beautification and Parks Committee, reflecting ongoing dedication to the community.
In real estate, Giles has built a long-standing reputation as a respected Realtor, Broker, and business owner, with experience in property sales, land acquisition, condominium development, and property management. SPIBOR leadership emphasized that his behind-the-scenes work has helped strengthen the Island’s growth and stability over many years.
Glenda also noted Giles’ role as a mentor and leader within his brokerage, describing him as exceptionally generous with his knowledge and devoted to the success of his agents. She credited his careful attention to contracts and marketing with setting a high standard of excellence and professionalism.
Glenda, who worked with Giles and his firm for 10 years, said she remains grateful for the opportunity and experience gained during her time with the team.
