Tracking Team Competes At Falcon Relays – Port Isabel-South Padre Press

This past Friday, February 27, the Port Isabel ECHS track teams traveled to Los Fresnos to compete in the Falcon Relays. The track and field meet had a diverse set of competitors hailing from up to 17 different-sized schools from the RGV and Laredo.

The men’s’ division featured some stiff competition especially from the 6A teams. The following were Port Isabel’s results.

Competing in the 100 Meters run, PI’s Ivan Medina came in 27th place with a time of 12.27 seconds, setting a new personal best (PB). Coming in 34th was Jahi Vasquez with a time of 12.51s (PB).

In the 200 Meters run, Kadyn Sanchez came in 20th place with a time of 23.59s (PB), Tristan Green came in 35th with a time of 24.65s (PB), and Christian Hernandez came in 41st with a time of 25.81s (PB).

In the 400 Meters run, speedster Luis Ramos finished in 5th place with a time of 52.0s (PB). Aidan Ramos came in 7th with a time of 52.30s (PB), while Jesus Ramos came in 24th with a time of 55.93s (PB).

In the 800 Meters run, Jorge Garcia came in 12th place with a time of 2:08.59 minutes (PB). Garcia also competed in the 1600 Meters run and finished in 11th with a time of 4:46.20m (PB).

In the 4×100 Relays, the team of Medina, L. Ramos, Hernandez, and A. Ramos finished in 9th place with a time of 46.41s.

In the 4×200 Relays, the team of Sanchez, Green, Hernandez and Mikel Sosa finished in 6th place with a time of 1:34.86 minutes.

Meanwhile in the 4×400 Relays, the team of L. Ramos, Sosa, J. Ramos, and A. Ramos finished in 5th place with a time of 3:38.28 minutes.

Competing in the Discus event, Vasquez came in 8th place with a distance of 122’-10” (PB).

Competing in the Long Jump, L. Ramos finished in 4th place with a distance of 20’-10”.

The top three order of finish were, Los Fresnos, Laredo Alexander, and Weslaco, with Port Isabel coming in 12th place.

Meanwhile in the women’s division, track star Elle Wall came in 9th place in the 100 Meters run with a time of 13.20s, and Evelyn Gonzalez came in 19th with a time of 13.74s (PB).

In the 200 Meters run, Wall finished in 4th place with a time of 26.68s.

In the 400 Meters run, Lizbeth Perez came in 15th place with a time of 1:04.72 minutes (PB), Julieta Ruiz came in 21st with a time of 1:06.68m (PB), and Nicole Sanchez came in 31st with a time of 1:11.46m. Sanchez also came in 18th in the 1600 Meters run with time of 6:36.16m (PB).

In the 800 Meters run, Layla Mata came in 9th place with a time of 2:29.17 minutes (PB).

In the 300m Hurdles, Madilynn Zamaron came in 13th place with a time of 52.11s (PB).

In the 4×400 Relays, the team of Mata, Perez, Wall and Ruiz finished in 6th place with a time of 4:16.79 minutes.

The team really stepped it up in the field events, as Escarlet Urrutia won gold in the Shot-Put event with a throw of 35’-10.00” (PB), and Precious Vasquez finished in 7th with a throw of 32’04.00” (PB). Securing her second medal, Urrutia also won bronze in the Discus with a throw of 106’-08”.

In the Long Jump event, Wall won silver with a distance of 16’-05.50”, and Perez came in 17th with a distance of 14’-05.00”.

In the High Jump event, Mata came in 14th place with a height of 4’-08.00”.

In the Triple Jump event, sable Ochoa came in 14th place with a distance of 30’-09.75”.

Closing up the field events, Jackie Nava came in 8th place in the Pole Vault event with a height of 7’-06.00 (PB).

The top three order of finish were, Laredo United, Laredo Alexander, and Harlingen. Port Isabel finished in 9th place.

The PI track teams will next be competing at home on Saturday, February 7th during the annual Tarpon Relays.
