LOS FRESNOS, TX —Last Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined AT&T representatives to distribute laptops to local students here.
“The reason we’re here is that 150 seniors have proven they’re either ready for college or a career,” said Governor Abbott during last week’s presentation.
“Over the past two years, we’ve invested $7 billion in career and technical education because we know how important it is for our students and their futures. We’re going to distribute laptops to those 150 seniors, who have demonstrated the excellence you can achieve here in Texas,” added the Governor.
“We are honored to join Governor Abbott today in Los Fresnos to distribute 150 computers to local high school students and celebrate 150 years of communications innovation,” said AT&T South Region President Leslie Ward.
“What began with a single phone call in 1876 has become a way of life – and AT&T has been there every step of the way at the forefront of connecting people and businesses,” she added. “We cannot predict what the next 150 years will bring, but we do know this: whatever comes next, we’ll be the ones connecting you to it.”
“The Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation is where dreams meet determination,” said Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation Chair Adan Garcia. “Our vision is a district where every individual’s aspirations are met with unparalleled support, and today’s laptop distribution is a great example of how we can support local students. We appreciate Governor Abbott, AT&T, and Compudopt for their support of Los Fresno students and for the 150 years of innovation that brings us here today.”
The laptops, funded through a partnership between AT&T, Compudopt, and the Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation, were distributed to graduating seniors in Los Fresnos to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call.
The Governor was joined by Senator Adam Hinojosa, Representative Janie Lopez, Adan Garcia, chair of the Los Fresnos CISD education division, Leslie Ward, President of the AT&T Texas division, and Adrian Quintanilla, Vice President of the AT&T South Texas division.
The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District is one of the strongest academic school districts in South Texas and has proven to be among the best in the state, according to the District’s website.
Los Fresnos CISD students, especially those facing economic challenges, consistently outperform the state and regional averages. “The District’s board of trustees, administration, and staff are dedicated to making Los Fresnos CISD one of the top districts in the state,” reads the website.
“The district board, administration, teachers, and staff are very proud of numerous achievements,” according to the website.
