The San Benito Public Library will host its annual Eggstravaganza on April 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., inviting families and local businesses to join a free, community-wide Easter celebration that unites residents.
San Benito Public Library Director Augustin Carrera stated that the goal of the event is to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging space that promotes family interaction, youth development, and community pride.
By providing the event free of charge, the library seeks to eliminate barriers to participation while fostering stronger connections among residents, local organizations, and city departments.
“The event aims to unite residents of all ages through recreational activities like egg hunts, games, and information booths,” Carrera said, adding that it also helps reinforce the library’s role as a central hub for community engagement and outreach.
Organizers anticipate about 10 to 15 local businesses and community groups to participate. Vendors won’t be selling products but will set up interactive booths, educational resources, and free giveaways for families.
“This approach allows businesses to engage directly with the community in a meaningful way,” Carrera said. “It strengthens relationships while creating a more enriching experience for attendees.”
Families attending can enjoy a variety of activities, including age-specific egg hunts, games, prize opportunities, and visits to booths hosted by local organizations. Other features include a cake walk, bounce house, and photo sessions with the Easter Bunny.
Free refreshments such as hot dogs, popcorn, and water will be available while supplies last.
Carrera stated that keeping the event free — including waiving vendor application fees — was a deliberate decision to promote inclusivity.
“By removing financial barriers, the event stays accessible to all families, especially those who might not otherwise be able to attend,” he said. “It also promotes participation from smaller organizations with limited resources.”
Beyond the festivities, the event emphasizes the library’s broader goal of promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. Carrera noted that events like the Eggstravaganza provide an opportunity to connect families with library programs and services in a friendly, welcoming setting.
“The Eggstravaganza is more than just a celebration,” he said. “It’s a way to strengthen community bonds and create positive, memorable moments for families.”
The event is taking place at the San Benito Public Library, 101 W Rose St, San Benito, and is open to everyone. For more details or to register as a vendor, contact the library at (956) 361-3860.
The City of Los Indios, along with the Los Indios Police Department, is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt later Saturday evening.
According to a community Facebook post, the event, scheduled for 5 p.m. at Veterans Park, 515 Del Rio Dr., Los Indios, features 1,500 eggs filled with colorful confetti, 500 eggs packed with candy for everyone to enjoy, six Easter baskets for raffle—each child will receive a ticket for a chance to win—and free hot dogs and drinks available while supplies last.
This event is also free and open to the public. Community officials encourage the public to invite friends, especially children.
