The San Benito Greyhound powerlifting team had junior Allen Treviño competing at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s State Meet held March 28 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Treviño placed seventh in the 114-pound division.

His lift totals were as follows: bench press, 245 pounds; squat, 330 pounds; and deadlift, 315 pounds, for a combined weight of 890 pounds.

The season began in January, and he competed at the same weight class in five meets. His best finish came in February when he lifted a combined 945 pounds at a Brownsville Hanna Meet.

He lifted a combined 900 pounds at each of his meets except state.

Head Coach Adrian Santos, Jr. said competing at the state level is no small feat, and Treviño earned his way here.

“His hard work, dedication, and perseverance have truly paid off, and Allen represented his team and school with pride; this is just the beginning of even greater accomplishments,” Coach Santos said.

The team is assisted by Ray Gonzalez.
