Town officials broke ground Tuesday on a nearly $1 million drainage improvement project that is expected to reduce flooding and improve stormwater drainage for approximately 125 Laguna Vista families.

The project is funded through a $975,174 grant from the Texas General Land Office and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Work will include installing storm drainage infrastructure, regrading drainage ditches, replacing culverts, repairing pavement and driveways, and making other drainage improvements in the Palm Boulevard area, including Palm Boulevard, Orange Lane, Ebony Lane and Mesquite Drive.

State Sen. Adam Hinojosa, State Rep. Janie Lopez, Texas General Land Office representative Elijah Casas, Fulcrum Consulting engineer George Lazaro, town officials and residents attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

“This project is about protecting our residents and investing in the future of Laguna Vista,” Council member Teresa Bryant said. “For years, we’ve worked to secure funding for drainage improvements, and it’s exciting to finally see construction begin. This investment will benefit families for years to come.”

Town leaders say the project is part of Laguna Vista’s ongoing effort to improve infrastructure and strengthen flood mitigation throughout the community.
