A community-wide school supply drive organized by Kenny Perez Law raised more than $10,000 to help Point Isabel Independent School District students prepare for the upcoming school year.
The inaugural Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive collected enough donations to fill a school bus with backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders, headphones and other classroom essentials. The firm also partnered with PIISD to assemble school supply packets that will be distributed to students.
The supplies will be handed out during a back-to-school distribution event on Friday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Point Isabel Junior High School gymnasium.
According to organizers, the drive was created to help ease the cost of back-to-school shopping for local families and ensure students have the materials they need as classes begin.
“Education is one of the greatest investments we can make in our community,” Kenny Perez said. “No child should have to start the school year feeling unprepared because of financial hardship.”
The campaign was supported by local businesses, community organizations and individual donors who contributed money and school supplies throughout the drive.
Perez said the response exceeded expectations and hopes the event becomes an annual tradition benefiting Laguna Madre students.
“Our goal was to show students and their families that this community supports them,” he said. “When we invest in our students today, we strengthen our community for generations to come.”
The event marks the first year of what organizers hope will become an annual effort to provide school supplies for students across the Point Isabel school district.
