South Padre Island voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking the Place 1 City Council seat during a candidate forum next month.
The South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce will host the City Council Special Election Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the South Padre Island Convention Centre, 7355 Padre Blvd. The forum is expected to conclude by 7 p.m.
Candidates Rita Hernandez and Gayle Hood are seeking the Place 1 seat in the October special election.
For more than 20 years, the Chamber has organized candidate forums to give voters an opportunity to learn more about those seeking local office. The forums are designed to provide candidates with a neutral, structured setting to discuss issues affecting South Padre Island and answer questions ahead of Election Day.
Chamber officials said the goal is to help residents become better informed about the candidates and issues they will consider at the polls.
The forum is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend ahead of the October special election.
